Allie's 2nd Birthday

Allie loves Curious George so it was inevitable that this would be the theme for her birthday cake.  I wanted to make a 3D style cake so I purchased a character and decided to create around him.  The hat is a sugar cone turned upside down and frosted.  The palm trees are pretzel sticks with AirHeads molded and cut to look like leaves.  The bananas are Runts candy.  I tried to keep the rest very simple so as not to distract from the activity on top.  I also decided that purchasing characters as opposed to trying to create them helps with making things look more spot on and professional.  It turned out very cute and Allie was very excited when she woke up from her nap and saw it sitting on the table.

Cody's 4th Birthday

Cody's fourth birthday brought an opportunity to try my hand at creating a figure out of icing.  He wanted a "Robin" cake (as in Batman and Robin) and I thought it would be easy enough to make a Lego character because of all the straight lines.  I purchased containers of spray frosting to get bright colors and to have an easy way to dispense the frosting.  I first traced the picture on the cake with a toothpick and then proceeded to fill it in.  Overall it worked out well and the colors stayed where I put them.
